and connexions between them

Abstract: One of the earliest result from Diophantine approximation is Liou-
ville's lower bound for the dierence between an algebraic number and a
rational
number. The proof of this estimate is easy. A much deeper result was
achieved
by A. Thue one century ago. Among many consequences of Thue's Diophantine
approximation estimate are results on the niteness of the number of
solutions
of Diophantine equations. We plan to give a survey of this theory, including
new results and open problems.
