*Combinatorial vs. Analytic Methods in Integer Partions

Abstract:  We will review some classical results like Euler's partition
theorem, the q-binomial theorem, or the pentagonal number theorem and
compare their analytic and combinatorial proofs.  Then we will look at some
more recent theorems which do not yet admit purely analytic or purely
combinatorial proofs.  We will describe some open problems as time allows.
The talk will be fairly accessible.
