*Polynomials over finite fields: conjectures, results, open problems*

Abstract: We will first describe some of the well-known conjectures about
polynomials over finite fields. We will then focus on the subclass of
permutations, discuss some open problems and present recent work towards
their solutions.

An alternative approach to the study of permutations, introduced by Aksoy,
Çeşmelioğlu, Meidl and Topuzoğlu, has proven to be successful in tackling
problems in diverse areas. We shall explain, for instance, a recent
application in uniform distribution mod 1 of an infinite sequence of real
numbers. This new approach brings together, naturally, new open problems,
which we will also describe.
