Dear Colleagues,

Prof. Henning Stichtenoth (Sabanci University) has kindly agreed to be our
first speaker this year at the Istanbul Number Theory Meetings; in fact he
will be giving two (back-to-back) 50 minute talks. The meeting will take
place on January 12th (Saturday) in Karakoy. Please find below the details
of Prof. Stichtenoth's talk and  further information about the time and
location of the meeting.

We heartily thank Sabanci University for hosting us in Minverva

A brief summary from the file:

This seminar focuses on the question "How many points can a curve over
a finite fi eld have?". In this seminar, Prof.
Stichtenoth  will present the method of "recursive towers of curves"
(introduced by Garcia and himself) to attain lower bounds on the so called
Ihara's constant. Prof. Stichtenoth  will also explain why (lower) bounds
for Ihara's constant A(q) are of high interest in coding theory.
