Dear all,

Please find below the announcement of a seminar talk by Prof. Persi
Diaconis at IMBM this Friday at 11:00. Diaconis is one of the world's
leading researchers in the fields of probability theory and mathematical
statistics. He is currently a professor at Stanford University, with joint
appointments at the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics. His work in
probability theory combines tools from a wide spectrum of areas such as
group theory, algebraic geometry and partial differential equations to
answer fundamental questions regarding card shuffling, coin tossing and
other concrete models; and has profound applications to statistical
computing, physics and computer science. To read his very interesting

Yesterday, Diaconis delivered the 2013-2014 Arf Lectures at METU. We thank
the Organizing Committee of the Arf Lectures for their collaboration in
hosting Diaconis at IMBM as well.
