Dear All,

Albert Erkip (Sabancı University) will give a talk titled "A review of some results on nonlocal wave-type equations" in our next departmental weekly seminar.

Abstract:
This talk will be about some results on nonlocal wave type equations. The equations that will be considered are of the form
\begin{equation}
u_{tt}-L_{u_{xx}}=Bg{(u)}_{xx},
\label{eq}
\end{equation}
where nonlocal effects are due to having $L$, $B$ pseudodifferential operators. This class generalizes all Boussinesq type equations. Generally speaking solutions of \eqref{eq} behave quite
well due to the dispesive effect of $L$ and the smoothing effect of $B$. The same phenomenon is observed in one directional waves, comparing Burger's equation to the KdV and BBM equations.
