Title: Knot Floer homology and the mapping cone formula
Abstract: Heegaard Floer theory provides us with invariants for  
3-manifolds and knots. In this talk I'll introduce these invariants  
and mention how they are related to each other. As an application, we  
will see that these invariants sometimes obstruct 3-manifolds being  
surgery on a knot. This talk should be accessible to any graduate  
student who has taken a class on algebraic topology.

11:30-13:00 Erman Çineli
Title: Viro patchworking
Abstract: Viro's patchworking method gives a way to construct real  
nonsingular curves with prescribed topology. With this method, Viro  
constructed (upto isotopy) all nonsingular, degree 7 curves in the  
real projective plane. This was a break-through in the classification  
problem of real nonsingular plane curves. In this talk, I will  
introduce the method and give a sketch of its proof.
