Subject: PROMYS Europe for students 16-18: Six-week mathematical immersion
at Oxford University

Dear TurkMath.org <http://turkmath.org>,
I am writing to ask for your assistance in reaching out to
mathematics-loving secondary school students in Turkey to make them aware
of PROMYS Europe, a partnership with the Mathematical Institute of the
University of Oxford, the Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI), and Wadham
College, University of Oxford. Thanks to the support of CMI and Wadham
College, *there is full and partial need-based financial aid; and the cost
of attendance for all students is heavily subsidized.*
PROMYS Europe is an intensive six-week summer immersion in mathematics at
Oxford University for pre-university students in Europe. It is closely
modelled on PROMYS, its 26-year-old parent programme at Boston University.
We are seeking students aged at least 16 who would be excited at the
opportunity to delve deeply into fundamental mathematical questions within
a richly stimulating and supportive community of fellow first-year
students, returning students, undergraduate counsellors, research mentors,
faculty, and visiting mathematicians. The first-year students focus
primarily on a series of very challenging problem sets and exploration labs
in Number Theory. An advanced seminar and numerous mini-courses, and guest
lectures will be on a wide range of mathematical topics.
*The PROMYS Europe application deadline is April 1, 2015. The application,
available here <http://www.promys-europe.org/programme/application> on the
PROMYS Europe site (www.PROMYS-Europe.org <http://www.promys-europe.org/>),
includes a challenging problem set. * Successful applicants do not need to
have taken any advanced courses in mathematics but need to show exceptional
readiness for thinking deeply about mathematics.
We would much appreciate you sharing the attached flyer and/or the
programme description below with schools, teachers, and potentially
interested students. Details of the programme and of PROMYS Europe’s
philosophy, background, and faculty are available on the PROMYS Europe site
where there are also testimonials from participants in the 2013 and 2014
pilot programmes: the CMI-PROMYS Scholarships and the Oxford Masterclasses
(and from PROMYS alumni from the past 26 years).
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like any additional
information.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Yours sincerely,
Julia Rolnick
