Izmir Institute of Technology’s Mathematics Department invites you to attend

*The Taut String Estimator: Weak Convergence and Confidence Bands*

At *Seminar Room 122*, Department of Mathematics, IZTECH, Urla, Izmir

On *Wednesday December 21st 2016*

>From *3:30 pm to 4:30 pm*.

The one-hour seminar will feature a presentation from Dr. Michael Pokojovy
(postdoc at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany) on his research
related with taut string estimators, which applies in particular to inverse
problems with noise. In this joint work with J. Marcus Jobe (Miami
University, Oxford, OH), it is proven that the taut string estimator
converges at the optimal rate in Sobolev spaces with negative indices. The
confidence bands for the conditional expectation and the explicit form of
the leading error term are derived under various regularity assumptions.
Finally, an illustrative simulation and numerical study supporting their
research is given.

Attendance at the Seminar is open to all faculty and students.
