Nurettin Ergun from Marmara University is going to give a talk entitled
"When is Cech-Stone compactification metrizable?" at the Istanbul
University Department of Mathematics Colloquium. The talk will be in

is Cech-Stone compactification metrizable?

*Özet/Abstract:* Başlıktaki sorunun 1953 yılında Y.Smirnov tarafından
verilen kısa ve etkileyici çözümü anlatılacaktır. Sözü edilen
kompaktlaştırma türü konusunda temel bilgilerden elbette bahsedilecektir.

We will discuss some of the fundamental facts about the compactification in
question and present short and impressive solution of the question in the
title, which was given by Y. Smirnov in 1953.
