Dear all,

*Prof. Dr. Patrick Iglesias-Zemmour * from Hebrew University of
Jerusalem(Visiting) will give a talk titled *“* * An Overview of
Symplectic Mechanics **” * on April 2nd at 14:00. All interested are
invited.

Abstract: I will present an overview of what has become “Symplectic
Mechanics” since the work of J.-L. Lagrange at the beginning of the 19th
century. I'll focus on a few themes, symmetries and the Moment Map, I will
comment the lack of equivariance which introduces the symplectic
cohomology. I will discuss some main theorems: on elementary systems and
coadjoint orbits, the Noether-Souriau theorem and also the theorem of
center of mass in Galilean mechanics. I will try to show how symplectic
geometry constitutes a perfect framework for the study of classical,
conservative mechanics. If I have time, I will say a few words about
geometric quantization and recent advances in symplectic diffeology.

Microsoft Teams platform will be used for the seminar. To join the seminar,
please use the following link:
