September by Prof. Dr. Aleksey Kostenko (University of Ljubljana and
University of Vienna).

Title: Generalized indefinite strings

Abstract: The aim of this talk is to overview our joint work with J.
Eckhardt (Loughborough University, UK) on generalized indefinite strings,
the object first appeared in the work of M.G. Krein and H. Langer on the
indefinite moment problem. The importance of a generalized indefinite
string stems, on the one hand, from the fact that it provides yet another
canonical model of a self-adjoint operator with simple spectrum, and on the
other hand, its connection with the Camassa-Holm equation, for which it
serves as an isospectral problem/Lax operator.
