Abstract: Diophantine approximation results by heights are of fundamental importance in diophantine geometry, such as Roth's theorem. In this talk we introduce the heigth function and give a lower bound in terms of the
height function for a certain class of algebraic numbers. In particular, these algebraic numbers cannot be a root of unity. Our method is via model theory and so our bounds will be ineffective. We also introduce the necessary background in model theory.
