   SEMINERIN BASLIGI:
Fermat type equations for meromorphic functions , with extensions
and generalizations

   Abstract:

First ,we present , as an analogue of the Fermat's Last Theorem for
numbers , a well-known and elementary result that the Fermat type
equation : P1^n +P2^n=P3^n has no nonconstant polynomial solutions
P1, P2 and P3 if n>2. Note the result says equivently that the
functional equation : f1^n +f2^n =1 has no nonconstant rational
(function) solutions. We then extend and generalize the result , by
mainly applying value distriburion theory, in several aspects : 1.
the exponent n can be different for f1 and f2 ; 2.more than two
unknown functions in the equations; 3. transcendental meromorphic
function solutions are to be considered. Thus,a brief account of the
value distribution theory will be introduced . We then show , by
concrete examples, how to use the theory to study the existence ,
growth , and unicity of admissible meromorphic solutions of certain
functional and nonlinear differential equations .
