Dear all,

We are happy to welcome Omer Kucuksakalli, METU Department of
Mathematics, at this week General Seminar.

Omer Kucuksakalli will give a talk

Title: Complex Multiplication

Abstract: A number field K is a finite field extension of rational
numbers. The classification of abelian extensions of number fields is
done by the class field theory. The Kronecker-Weber theorem says that
any abelian field extension of rational numbers is a cyclotomic field
(generated by roots of unity). In general, however, the construction
of abelian extensions is not nearly as explicit as in the cyclotomic
case. The theory of complex multiplication provides a similar
description for the abelian extensions of imaginary quadratic fields.
The abelian extensions of such fields are given by adjoining values of
certain elliptic functions. In this talk, we will give a brief
introduction to the study of this area of mathematical research.
