Title: Maximal curves and Hermitian curves

Abstract: This talk will be around the question "Is any maximal curve 
covered by the Hermitian curve?" By definition, a maximal curve over a 
finite field is such that its number of rational points attains the 
Hasse-Weil upper bound. Within certain classes of curves (Fermat, 
Artin-Schreier, hyperelliptic curves), the maximal ones are indeed 
covered by the Hermitian curve. A result of Giulietti and Korchmaros 
gives a negative answer to the question above, i.e. there are maximal 
curves that are not covered by the Hermitian curve.
