Abstract: We start with a brief overview of string and M-theory and
the AdS/CFT corre-
spondence for the general audience. Then we explain how some string
and M-theory backgrounds,
relevant for the AdS/CFT correspondence can be deformed by using a
stringy symmetry: T-duality.
This talk is based on our joint work with Nihat Sadýk Deðer,
