Abstract

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD - also referred to as Quantum Cryptography) is a secret key agreement technique based on the laws of quantum physics . It is a two step procedure: Initially the legitimate parties exchange quantum signals over a quantum channel, and subsequently the parties run a classical post-processing protocol over a public communication channel to agree on two identical secret keys. It has been shown that QKD rigged with Information-Theoretic Secure (ITS) authentication of the classical messages transmitted during the key distribution protocol is also ITS. QKD without any authentication can trivially be broken by man-in-the-middle attacks.
In this talk, I will first give a general introduction to QKD. Then, various authentication primitives proposed for use in QKD will be discussed along with the their security in the context of QKD.
