Stable commutator lengths in mapping class groups.

Abstract: The mapping class group is the group of self-diffeomorphisms
of a surface
considered up to isotopy. This group plays a central role in low
dimensional topology.
It is perfect, i.e. every element can be written as a product of
commutators.
I will be discussing the number of such commutators for some special
elements.
