Dear Colleagues,

This is a reminder that Prof. Henning Stichtenoth (Sabanci University) will
be our first speaker this year at the Istanbul Number Theory Meetings; in
fact he will be giving two (back-to-back) 50 minute talks. The meeting will
take place on January 12th (this Saturday!) in Karakoy. Please find below
the details for Prof. Stichtenoth's talk and  further information about the
time and location of the meeting.

We heartily thank Sabanci University for hosting us in Minverva

A brief summary from the file:

This seminar focuses on the question "How many points can a curve over
a finite fi eld have?". In this seminar, Prof.
Stichtenoth  will present the method of "recursive towers of curves"
(introduced by Garcia and himself) to attain lower bounds on the so called
Ihara's constant. Prof. Stichtenoth  will also explain why (lower) bounds
for Ihara's constant A(q) are of high interest in coding theory.
