  General Seminar.

  Speaker: Mustafa Korkmaz

  Title: Uniform perfectness of the unimodular groups

    Abstract: A perfect group G is called uniformly perfect if there  is 
an integer N such that every element of G is a product of at most N  
commutators. I will explain why the unimodular groups are uniformly  
perfect, an old result of M. Newman from 1987. I will also discuss how  
the upper bound can be improved.
